LET’S LOVE
LOVE YOUR BODY, MIND, AND SOUL.
LOVE THE WORLD.
After the 60's time of total revolution-- serious hippie, political, sexual, spiritual revolution, working hard to push boundaries and the status quo and create SERIOUS CHANGE. After this heavy time of war and more war fighting against having the wars, the 70's emerged-- the time to boogie! We often dismiss this time period and I know the younger generations look at it with disdain, we don't honor or respect that time at all! We all know the classic tunes, the typical dance moves from Saturday night fever with John Travolta, and we all loved rocking those bell bottoms. But it's usually regarded as a silly, ridiculous period that no one wants to ever talk about again. Why do we pass over this incredible time and message of wild expression and fun? It only recently occurred to me the power and significance of this time! The Bee Gees' song sums it up--'you should be dancing, yeah!' After taking ourselves so seriously with anger against each other all over the world, fighting so hard for peace on one side, and fighting for an idea of security and protection on the other, we just needed to let go of all the ideas, concepts and fighting, and simply DANCE! Let loose and enjoy ourselves! Get out of our minds and into the body, and experience the pure joy that comes with just being in our bodies, present, in the moment, feeling the groove. This is a timeless message and so pertinent and necessary NOW. How ironic that this current generation, who needs this message so much right now, as they are glued to their technological devices and virtual realities, are totally dismissive of that time period. Yes, we should be dancing! Let's put down our highly advanced technological equipment, our overly structured plan-making, our fear-based cages of so many rules and overprotection, our judgment and the wars within our own minds and between each other all over the world…let's put that all down just for a bit, and let's dance together! We naturally oscillate from heavy periods of being intensely serious and passionate about certain issues in our lives and in the world, to a more youthful, innocent playful experience of life with music and dance and social gatherings. Let's take the wisdom of the ages and integrate it into our lives now. Let's not continue the same pattern of total burnout in serious mode then having to jump into crazy bright colors, glitter and bell bottoms to shout out that we have to reclaim our bodies and reclaim silliness and fun! Let's bring the ridiculously funny, diverse costumes, collective synchronized upbeat dancing and singing of YMCA into our daily lives! We don't have to copy the actual stuff of that time, just the sentiment of wild fun. We can marry the serious drive and passion of working towards creating change in the world, with the simple truth of havin some good ol' fun fun fun! In order to avoid the highway to hell, we have to take the stairway to heaven. We need this reckless abandonment for our sanity, for stayin alive! We gotta play that funky music, reignite our Dancing Queen, and once we get goin', we won't stop 'til we get enough! We all share this heart of gold, we are all the heroes that we want to be, even the tiny dancer that no one sees. We figured out it's not about fame, we're lookin' for some hot stuff! Tonight is the night! So come on everybody, if you feel like I feel... come on, let's get it onnn!
