LET’S LOVE
LOVE YOUR BODY, MIND, AND SOUL.
LOVE THE WORLD.
We get so caught up with the goal, the destination, we forget about the beauty and fun of the ride. Yes, this concept is already superrrr cliché, we've heard it many times. But today this message came in strong. I was leaving my house with one goal in mind: must have delicious smoothie in my mouth. NOW. It was all I could think about, nothing else mattered, and I couldn't wait another second. I jumped on my scooter, on my mission to go get said smoothie, and as I'm driving all that's going on in my head is 'smoothie, smoothie, smoothie.' But suddenly the road had different plans for me. There were all kinds of twists that showed up--windy, sand-filled slippery turns and narrow maneuvering around construction blocks. This wild ride needed my full attention, immediately. I realized that I could have easily missed one of these signs or sandy turns, had I not quickly snapped out of my smoothie mission mode. I had to totally forget about the smoothie and put all my energy into driving. After the wild road passed, I also noticed that instead of going back to 'must have smoothie' mission driving, it was much nicer to leisurely enjoy the beautiful scenery I was passing around me. I could sense there was some agitation to let go of my smoothie desire. I wanted it NOW! But it was so nice to just say, okay, I'm en route to this happy place, and for now I just enjoy the ride along the way. It's a tiny little example of a concept that could become something much more serious. A lot of us get caught up in trying so hard to achieve larger goals in our lives, that we miss all the fun, spontaneity and joy of what happens in between stating what you want and finally getting it. The whole process of learning, falling, growing, adventuring, loving, losing...all of that is the life journey that matters just as much as the end goal. This is why it's so good to leave your comfort zone and mix up your usual routine to explore and adventure. At home I would just jump into a car machine that could mindlessly take me where I need to go. I wouldn't have to put much effort into paying attention, so I would stay stuck in the fact that I am 'just going to work', or 'just going to buy groceries.' I could very comfortably remain in my small, narrow world of who I am and what my reality consists of. I could stay in my small realm of what I know and what my mission is, without leaving any room for mystery. adventure, surprise or even enjoyment of the road on the way. You see you don't have to forget completely about your goal. Many people think being present is about dropping all desires and plans and missions. It's not! It's about letting go of the attachment to these goals or the attachment to needing them to be or look a certain way. It's about having a goal in mind as a direction point and then enjoying all the mystery that can come on the way. It's about finding the balance between keeping a desired outcome in mind, not completely abandoning it when distractions arise, but also being open to total abandonment and total possibility of something new to show up on the way! Maybe it steers your course in a new direction, maybe it changes your desire, or maybe it just makes the experience of getting to the end goal so much better!
