LET’S LOVE
LOVE YOUR BODY, MIND, AND SOUL.
LOVE THE WORLD.
I met someone the other day and we spent hours in intense intellectual discussion about the widest range of topics in life. It was very intellectually stimulating, we shared countless ideas and perspectives with each other, back and forth, on and on it went. It was a fun brain exercise. Later I met someone who knew this person and she described him as being 'very intelligent.' When she said that I felt confusion. I had been hours deep in an intellectually stimulating discussion with a man who is a graduate of one of the top universities of the world, working for one of the top companies in the world, sharing fascinating information about topics ranging from science, philosophy, politics, psychology, to metaphysics and the nature of reality..and I still didn't feel I could say he was intelligent? If that wasn't the definition of intelligent, then what was? I realized then that my definition of intelligence had changed. Before I was raised by my family and the society around me to believe that intelligence was measured by and reflected in the level of your education, your profession, the titles, certificates and achievements handed to you by reputable institutions, your level and breadth of vocabulary, and your ability to regurgitate knowledge about certain subjects. Since then I have discovered such a deeper form of intelligence, and all of those other definitions are completely blown away, seeming so frivolous and irrelevant. We give so much weight and power to knowledge accumulated by society's standards of importance, certain esteemed faculties and institutions, and mind-based facts. But we forget what is the source of true intelligence and how to access that within ourselves. Now I know that true intelligence is something that exists regardless of what information I accumulate and regardless of what anyone or anything outside of me tries to say or convince me of. True intelligence is life itself. It is the ultimate creator of all that is here, and it lives in and drives each cell of our bodies, each atom that creates this world. If that intelligence can simply be felt and heard within ourselves, then creativity is born through us and we have access to the deepest, most profound, timeless wisdom that there is. It's from that wisdom that we can invent and create thought-bending, ground-breaking, gravity-defying, wall-crumbling, society-blasting new, fresh, interesting perspectives and realities. Simply studying and repeating old, tired information that's been recycled from somebody else's words, thoughts and experiences is BORING and to me, completely uncreative and uninteresting. I want to know, what do YOU HAVE TO SAY? Not what have you heard other people say, and you are now repeating it back in an effort to feel you have accomplished something, that you now fit in and are accepted. Dare to be bold and truly innovative by fearlessly being YOU. And not the you that's trying to be unique by simply denying and defying everything others have done and said..that is still the same old, tired attempt to be accepted and fit in..by trying to show you don't care to fit in, when in fact you really do. There is a deeper intelligence within each of us that is screaming out to be heard, seen and recognized. When we answer that call and truly listen, and truly allow ourselves to be guided by this ultimate intelligence, then life gets interesting for us and everyone around us. This does not mean I don't value information in the respected fields of science, philosophy, etc. I actually love all of it! I actually find that while I did horribly in the history subject in school, when I access this deeper intelligence within myself, certain historical facts will reveal themselves to me when they are relevant. If you ask me to recite certain facts and dates about past historical events, wars and peoples' names, I couldn't do it. Because it does not touch my heart, it does not appeal to my soul, and it simply has no purpose for what my passions and interests are to share and create in this world. But if I need to know about some major event in history that pertains to something I want to express, I will find it is easy to access the crucial points, the essence and the resulting effect and meaning of those past events. Just like I may not remember your birthday or other facts you might have told me after meeting you, but I will remember the important parts of the connection we made and the essence of who you are. It's a totally radical approach to knowledge, one that is based on trust and surrender, rather than trying to wrestle information to the ground, shove it into our memories and spit it back out to the world as some kind of triumphant feat that should be recognized and validated. Knowledge is fantastic, crucial and powerful, no doubt. But it is powerful as a tool to use from a place of deeper and higher wisdom, for a higher purpose,. Not simply for the sake of 'knowing and accumulating.' It is easy to get carried away in the allure of self gratification and congratulation with this kind of power, and from that place more shallow, self-serving life choices are made that have little to no benefit to the world. Without a self inquiry of why--why do I need this information, why is it important, and how could it be used in a way that's useful and positive--knowledge is simply empty. Knowledge for the sake of increasing personal power and status, and for the recognition of having it, is useless, and potentially destructive. If it is used by the individual ego as another mechanism for building and exerting power onto others, we have seen again and again in the world how this becomes incredibly harmful. True intelligence begins within. With a powerful, deep knowing of who you are and what you are made of. Knowing deeply that you are bigger than what your mind can imagine, knowing there are no boundaries or limits to your dreams, knowing that you always have access to an infinite well of creativity and love, and that no one or nothing outside of you can give or take anything away. From there, learning and accumulating knowledge as a way to share your passions, goals, and gifts with the world is wonderful and truly powerful. With an intention and drive that comes from this deeper place of knowing, which seeks to only spread and create more positivity and love in this world. From this place, the intelligence of the mind is a fantastic tool to explore and create. If someone just looked at you in silence from this place of deep intelligence, you might feel you suddenly had all the answers in the world. Without any exchange of any particular knowledge, you could feel like everything just makes sense. No questions, words or thoughts would be necessary, feeling simply complete and enjoying the perfection of the intelligence of the moment shared. In the presence of incredibly wise beings who have discovered this intelligence for themselves, you can experience all your mental activity completely disappear, and you can feel all worries melt away into a deep peace, and a sensation that all is perfect and okay. When someone is living from this true intelligence within themselves, it is unmistakable. It bursts from their heart and pours through their eyes and it is felt by everyone that comes into their presence. A true desire to connect, to share, to uplift, to grow together. It is a beautiful and remarkable thing to experience. Intelligence not limited to just the mental realm of thought, but as a total, full body expression, emanating through a person's being, as who they are and what they wish to offer this world. When you travel outside your comfort zone and meet a wise old woman who mutters nonsensical things in a language you might not even understand, but you feel a profound presence and just know they've figured something out. When a child looks up at you with eyes of an angel, in such a pure, innocent way that says, 'I have nothing to say and nothing to hide, I just want to show you what love is.' That, to me, is an intelligence we all have access to, regardless of circumstance. It is the intelligence of life itself. This intelligence runs to and from the very core of every element in life. It's what grows each tree, swims each fish, shines each star, orbits each planet, breathes each breath, activates each cell. As humans, we have an ability to utilize this intelligence in a special way. We can use our mind's intellect to know ourselves as being this same intelligence, yet also be humbled by its greatness. When our personal intellect is flavored with this deeper awareness of the ultimate, unknowable, universal intelligence that runs it all, then I would say that's an intelligent person. Because what this person says and does is permeated with this profound, deep intelligence, which is here to expand, grow, create and share more love with the world. Carrying a humble power, an impersonal confidence, a knowing with no known source. If we could, for at least a short while, forget everything we were taught to believe as being important, forget striving and achieving, forget impressing, and forget having any answers. If we could allow our mind to be empty and admit maybe we're not sure if we know anything at all. If we allow ourselves to simply be present with what is alive inside us, without any pressure, without any response from past accumulated information. If we dare to be so vulnerably 'unintelligent,' we just might discover how truly, unimaginably intelligent we really are.
